Bad Strut Mounts Cause Treadwear At Outer Corners?

So, I've been told by my mechanic that I have bad strut mounts in the front. He said he couldn't recommend doing it as it's basically pulling everything attached to the strut mount and it wouldn't make the car unsafe to keep driving (for a while anyways).

That being said, I've noticed what I consider abnormal wear on the outside of the tire tread. I never underinflate... usually run 30-35 psi on 185 65 14 tires (assuming accurate pressure gauge, use pen type that cost $5 at auto store). Does it seem likely my treadwear is from the strut mounts?

That being the case, should I just accept the tire wear and leave the mounts alone? I haven't been quoted a price for this, basically we drive on terrible roads here in Detroit so my mechanic just said these cars take a beating here... will this just happen again if I fix it?

I would follow this guy's good and honest advice by leaving it alone (and also keep going to him for all of your future repairs).

Yeah, they are an amazing shop... no complaints there. They don't work on commission there, that was advice straight from the owner... who technically would be on commission lol.

I think I may have figured out that the wear I've noted is due to excessively hard cornering, I drove this car hard when it was much newer to me... lol. I have since started trying to baby it more, once the 'new' wore off... :p
