      Passenger Airbag

In my aveo, i can have a passenger sit down in the seat and sometime the light stays on off. I've taken it to the dealership where the vehicle was purchase and basically told me not to look at the light. Anyone know of anything that could cause this to happen?

      Re: Passenger Airbag

It's not a very efficient system and seems to happen to many makes/models and not just our Aveos. The pax airbag is activated when it determines there is sufficient weight in the pax seat, however, not all people sit in the exact way that causes their weight to be properly calculated by the embedded sensor. So tell your 125lb+ passengers to not slouch or sit off to the side and it will activate.

Thank you, why can't they go back to using the key to turn on and off the pax airbag?

It should be lit at all times to indicate whether or not the airbag is "active". Do you have an older model where they didnt use this feature?

      Re: Passenger Airbag

On the 2008 Sedans, and possibly the 2007s, the airbag lights are in the second information panel. If no one is sitting in the pax seat then the airbag off light is on. But once someone over the weight of 125 lbs, maybe more, sits in the seat the airbag on light should be lit. Will post a picture tonight of the cluster and post it here.

      Re: Passenger Airbag

That's different on the how the light works. I have a 2008 hatchback and it's bugs the s#!t out of me that the bright warning light comes on with no passenger saying Passenger Airbag is OFF. When my wife/passenger sits down the light goes off, I guess saying the airbag is on. The dealer told me that all 2008 airbag warning lights have to tell you when it's OFF. The light is really annoying at night because it's so bright and just reminding you that you don't have a passenger with you.

      Re: Passenger Airbag

my 2008 sedan tells me when the passenger side air bag is on or off. There is a light behind the off and the on markers. It has always worked well, without any issues for me.

      Re: Passenger Airbag

My wifes Scion XD is nice, the passenger airbag light is a nice light green color (not the warning bright yellow of Aveo) and it shows both ON and OFF for airbag status also. I think a mod might be inline for me to change the color of the bulb for this. I see bright yellow and think Check Engine light... they really should have used a different color or not put it on the SIC so that it's way out there always in view.
