      no smoking please

ok so i picked up a 2 10" bandpass box and a 200 watt amp for like 20 bucks, but i have a problem with the amp. I had a good ground and all the wires run and hidden. I hooked up all the wires, and lastly the power wire, and immediately smoke began to come pouring out from inside the amp and the amps fuse blew. I am clueless on what to do. It seems like there is just way too much power running into the amp.

i changed up my system today as well. i have a 1000 watt kenwood amp pushing a 12" kicker l7 in a nice box i picked up for free from my cousin who no longer has a truck to put it in.

i still need to know whats wrong with the other amp though, its killing my mind. anyone have any thoughts or remedies?

Something inside the amp shorted...That's the only way there's going to be too much power going to it.

probably an inline fuse is too much. My friends amp kit came with an 80 and when we hooked it up, it popped. We looked at the manual and it said 60. Hard lesson learned.

i guess thats why amps should not be bought from walmart

also, new question concerning the system i have now (1000w kenwood and kicker setup)

my fuse between the amp and batter is 60 amp, would it be wise to change it to 80 amp, or is it even that big a deal?

Only use what the amp is made for. If 60 is what the amp needs, don't use a 80. If the system draws too much power (a short) the fuse will blow before the amp (theoricly). with an 80 in there, chances are the amp will blow before the fuse in case of a short.
