      Timing belt change...now wont start?

      2004 Aveo 1.6 automatic

Changed the timing belt and i believe everything is correct. Now it wont start. Turns over...yes has spark at sparkplugs...yes theres gas. Not really sure where to go from her. Bought this car used 7 months ago because i was in need of a car bad and regret it cuz this thing has been nothing but a headache so Im not sure what service or maint has been done to it. It has 130,000 miles so im guessing things are starting to break down. Maybe its not getting fuel...fuel filter maybe? Any help is appreciated and thanks ahead of time. I have service manual and no im not a mechanic but am confident I can do the work.

I am also having the same problems as said above except for....
Reason for changing the belt is for belt braking.
I know its getting fuel because i can smell it.
I have tripple checked every thing as far as putting the belt on correct.
Any legit answers will be much appreciated!

His problem was he bent all the valves when the belt broke.

If i were you, i would check your compression.

That has been the next step for me after putting on the new belt...
Would having bent valves cause the engine to not start?

I ask this because I have been told that it would run but it would run like crap.

if none of the cylinders have compression, it will not start. 1-2 bent valves, it might run crappy, but if you kill 2 cylinders in a 4 cylinder, your sunk.

There are usually two causes for the engine not to start after changing the timing belt. The first as stated is bent valves which would be common with a broken timing belt, but the other thing that can happen is for the timing to be physically incorrect which will also lead to no compression. This can be checked very simply by lining up the timing marks which should be a simple process if you're technically skilled enough to have changed the timing belt in the first place. It is not at all uncommon to have the timing a tooth or two off because the belt will occasionally have slack in it during the placement that is taken up when the tensioner is installed and properly adjusted.

Ok I will recheck timing marks today, and tomorrow I will do a compression test.
      Thanks for the responses
