      Performance Chips. Do they work?

      Hi All,
Do these 'performance chips' that I see advertised on this site actually work? I mean....'Up to 60 extra HP.....' by installing a new chip into my ECU is that really going to get me an extra 60HP? Or is it more like....'UP TO 60'....meaning I really get 1 or 2 extra, unless I put in a ton of extra high performance parts? Since i get crappy mileage anyway, how much worse could it get. And it says mileage is suppose to go up as well...so...before I spend money I dont have....do these things work, or is it all hype? Like the K&N Filter....where you also get....'up to an extra 15HP'....it is always 'up to'. And then you get 1 extra HP at most. Anyone? And is it that easy to install....and uninstall if it is not to my liking?

Like the other 300 threads, they don't work. I don't know why you worry so much about MPG's, you don't drive anywhere

Sorry ,i didnt know there was a huge post about the chip. For once I am looking for PERFORMANCE out of the car, instead of mileage. So as I said....'since I get crappy mileage anyway', and this thing SAYS it gives you up to 2-3 MORE miles per gallon, if I can get a ton of horsepower, AND get a tiny bit of more MPG, with this little chip for $69, why not try it? That is why i am asking if it works or not.
So...there is a big post of people talking about this chip? I will have to go hunt for it.

regardless of the price of the "chip" what they added to the "system" it is still basically a resistor from radio shack that is less than $.50 and all it does is change the intake sensor to trick the computer to run rich..

There have not been any in the past month or two, but we usually have one a week, and they all say the same thing

If those did "work" everyone would have them, that is for sure.

Are there chips for sale on this forum? I haven't seen any adverts here but the way tuning shops in Thailand offer them is as part of a package; a cold-air intake, new header and something like a 'Unichip' or similar for modest power gains, I've never heard of +60bhp being claimed, usually up to +10% of the engine's original power.

I bought the JET chip for my car. I noticed a great deal more low end power. Which would be great if I were racing people all the time. For in town daily driving though, it creates a very stop and go jerking experience though. Reminds me of the ecplipse I had with 300 whp. I just removed my chip because while I did find it effective and that it actually worked. It just wasn't an across the line gain.
I do want to add though that my chip wasn't a 67 dollar cheapy from some website. I paid 240 bucks for it from JET.

If you want more power on the computer side of things get a tune. I've had one on my car for about a year now and it has changed the vehicle completely. Contact Vince over at Trifecta tuning and tell him Cory with the aveo sent ya.
