      Need help removing cylinder head

      Hello Everyone,

I'm brand new to this forum so I apologize in advance. If this is posted in the wrong place. I'm looking for a guide on how to remove the cylinder head on a 2004 Chevy Aveo. The timing belt snapped on me and bent some valves. I know auto zone has a good resource on removal. However I need some more visuals on what to remove and to get to the point of removing the cylinder head bolts. Any help or guides on this would be greatly appreciated. You can email me files at e.white209@yahoo.com.

I will have a general write up of it this afternoon. I will have pictures posted this weekend on it. I just removed my 2005 Head and hopely you will find yours like I found mine. Be aware they can punch through the piston and then you need a new engine unless you rebuild it. Good luck and Doax has a thread on replacing an engine. I will try and be detail enough on mine as I can.

That's horrible hopefully you still take the time to rewrite it as im sure it will be a much needed resource for a lot of people. I have it to finish the head removal and still looking for something with a lot more detail and pictures. Honestly a video of the removal would be cool to find as well.

What all have you done on it? You need to first start with the basics. Disconnect the battery, and jack the car up and remove the passenger wheel. You then remove the cover from the wheel well and then you break the Crankshaft pulley bolt loose. Then you can release the alternator belt and remove the timing cover from the bottom and top. You will need to put a jack under the engine. Pull the air filter housing and then you should be able to get to the motor mount and remove the bolts from it. This will get you to the timing belt and the tensioner and pulley and water pump.

Ok here you will find a picture of the the cylinder head of my engine. If you look at the lower right it will have a port the shape of a paddle and at the top it will have nothing like that. This is a single port head and if it had two upper and lower then it will be a double port head and this is really rare they say. What that means is a new head is needed which is the big bucks but you also need to know that when you go purchase it unless you find one in a salvage yard that is in running condition.
