Automatic transmission - about 4,000 rpm at 60 mph. Normal?

Hey everyone I'm new to this site. I've been searching online and can't find anything about what's normal. I bought a used 2004 aveo, 4 speed automatic, hatchback. When running at higher speeds the rpms seem to be pretty high. When driving on the freeway, on flat areas (well as flat as u can get in colorado mountains) my engine revs to about 4,000 rpms at 65 mph, right under 4,500 rpm at 75 mph. There is no check engine light and the car runs smooth other then this. Idles normal in park. I've called the dealership & they can't tell me if this is a normal rev rate without taking the car in. The closest dealership is over 60 miles away so I am turning to online research to see if this is normal. I've talked to a couple mechanics & they say these little engines are made to rev high. This just doesn't seem right for it to rev so high. Anyone have any thoughts, ideas or can anyone tell me what their aveos rev at? Thanks.

I have started from a complete stop a couple times going up to 65-75 mph, then hold steady at this speed. The car will shift twice, which I would assume is 3rd gear. If I step on the gas more to pick up speed the car will shift into, what I'm assuming is a passing gear. Revving up to around 5,000 to 5,500 rpms. I don't passing gear is the 4th gear or not, I'm assuming its not down shifting to 2nd gear at those speeds.

No change in tire or rim size. The car is all stock. No mods to engine either

Thanks this helps. Gives me some ideas of where to start looking. Seems like mine is staying locked out for some reason.

Have you checked the tranmission fluid level and quality? If not do that first - check it with the engine running. If it's not low, and the fluid quality appears to be ok, don't drive 60 miles to a dealer (or even 6 miles for that matter). Find out where the nearest transmission specialty shop is located and take it there for diagnosis, and repair estimate.
