After reading the above comments we checked the plug at the air filter (was told it there was an o2 sensor there) to make sure it was plugged in. they said it wasnt completely plugged in, so did that.... the light didnt stop right then, but about half an hour later the light went off... its been off for over an hour but just hadnt shut the car off til now, so will let you know if it stays off etc.... Other than that is there anything else i should check as well? thank you so much for getting back to me!!!

Well folks that is what fixed it! Havent had any more issues with it flashing "hold" or being locked in gear etc.... fuel milage sucks, the o2 sensor behind the catalitic converter went out, and a few quirks, other than that shes back to running right. thank you for all your help!

most likely when putting back everything together you for forgot to plug in one of the sensors

Hes right. Any time the engine runs sluggish below a certain rpm then the ECU WILL send a signal to the transmission to NOT go into 4th gear so as to not over rev the engine. For me it was a bad Map sensor at $80. My code was #0107. It could be most any code though. A better description of this is on Answers.com under "Flash hold light" page 2.

You actually mean a Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) at the air filter box, not a O-2 sensor.

No, it was definately the MAP sensor. That part controls allot! I saw it on either E-bay or Amazon where it was $27 each so I bought 2. Thats cheap considering they run around $80 at Auto Zone.
My situation is different then everyone else here because I have 2- 2005 Aveos LS the same year which allows me to part swap for testing purposes.

I too have a Chevy Aveo 05, I am having same issues with the check engine and hold light flashing. now I noticed when the flashing starts I can park and turn off car. when I turn her back on the flashing has stopped and just the check engine light remains. there is misfirings yes but once the car warms up its not as bad. So a friend of mine said it could be spark plugs and also he works at Autozone so he was able to look up some things he printed prices for ignition coil. he said he will start with the changing of spark plugs since I haven't changed them. could be all. My boyfriend thinks the same too about the plugs. could that be the problem
