YouTube: Aveo owner pissed off from cracked plastic thermostat housing = seized motor

Don't know if this link has been posted before... but this guy was understandably mad.

5,500 views as of today... that's serious.

The web is great for letting people put pressure on companies for product & service issues. Maybe it'll make them try harder.

I understand he is mad and I support him! There might be some back story (there is always something). I though since 2007 there was a more extensive bumper to bumper warranty on the aveo, say 60K.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

I agree there's probably more to the story.

I find it a little hard to believe the motor seized just 1/4 of a mile after "it started to overheat".

no way that car overheated and seized in a little under 3 minutes and a 1/4 mile.. that might be when he stopped driving, but he sure as hell must not of shut the car off.. im pretty sure it would have warped the head and stalled even then not in that time frame..

also the complaint about the steering rack, seems like a bad dealership more than a bad car. BUT the steering rack is a wear item in our cars as we do not have replaceable inner tie rods.. you have to do the whole rack to replace it.

and as all our experience has said, he has 24000 miles on his 09 he traded in after 7 months of driving.. so how many miles did he have on the first aveo? if over 100k that part should have been replaced, and prevent all of his complaint. (maybe).

Yeah, I think he said 105k miles on his first Aveo.

I agree with your take on the overheating time being suspicious.

I speak from experience - warped & cracked the head in an '86 Civic when the head gasket blew in heavy, fast traffic in the left lane of the freeway near Toronto. Couldn't just stop. Even after I got over to the right, I pushed it further than I should have because I knew there was an exit coming up & I wanted to be off the freeway. Probably went a couple of km from when I saw the plume of steam from the exhaust.

No great loss. I think I paid $265 for the car.
