where to start? under the hood ( the big flat piece of metal in front of the windshield), there is an engine. if you are looking at it you are heading in the right direction. To you left there is a belt and pulleys, you can see the, spin when the car is running, if you haven't found that yet go start the car (keep you fingers out of the engine compartment!!). To the immediate right of the belt, or behind it if you go stand beside the fender (the big painted thin between the tire and hood (already described) on the passenger side (without the steering wheel), you will see a black cover. Not the horizontal black cover that says "etec II" or "ecotec" the on the is vertical behind the belt that moves..

the timing belt is behind that..

      sorry i couldn't help myself. :P

Hopefully(for him) just inspect it. However, I wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of a motor replacement and the carnage that ensues when the belt snaps ahem, I meen, the amount of knowledge that would come from learning about a motorswap and proper maintenance.

Yeah I've read that thread, followed it pretty regularly. I'm just in a destructive mood today and want to see some broken pieces. I'm waiting for my belt to snap and tear apart my engine. Then I can probably convince Mrs. Matchbox that I mine as well buy up a cobalt ss motor since it needs one anyways. Cheaper just to keep up with belt maintenance? yeah, but this way sounds a whole lot more fun.

Thats ok, I gotta have dreams. But I wouldn't mind seeing what it could do first hand.
