      Shift lock

How many of you have had you gear shift get stuck in park? I've already had it fixed at the mechanics once but it's happened again. Is there anything I can do or is this definitely a mechanics job??

I know how to get it unlocked gclark and the manual says to take it back to the dealer, but was asking if it's an easy enough job to fix myself, or just let the pro's do it.

      Shift Lock

Hello, Yes I have this same problem with my Nov 07 Automatic Barina. I am trying to find out how many others are having this problem to let Holden know how common it is. Anyone who know about this problem, please email barinastuckinpark@gmail.com

I have also had the same problem with my 2006 (125K). Had the dealer fix it a while back and now it is starting to happen again. SO frustrating!

Odds are it is the brake switch that sends the signal to the neutral safety switch. It is a cheap part and is fairly easy to replace.

I believe I read on this forum I should have the shifter interlock solenoid replaced. I took my Aveo to the dealer and had them replace the solenoid. After replacing it, I was told the shifter still would not come out of park every time, so they did a diagnostic and said it was the stop lamp switch, which was replaced. Now I guess I will end up having to replace both parts again.

It may be cheaper to just put a Key Blank in the Shift Lock Release and leave it there.
