      Information about coolant leaks

      hello all,
Just wanted to let fellow Aveo owners know this tidbit. I purchase my 2008 Aveo in September 2013 from day one I had to add coolant. Well fast forward to May 2016 on way home from work car overheated limped it home only to discover all coolant was gone. After inspecting it found the coolant bottle had sprung a leak. Mad dash to find part and upon removing old bottle notice it was full of small spiderweb of cracks since newer one went in no coolant loss at all. So if you are losing coolant check the bottle it may have a small cracks that seeps.

Good tip. Was your Aveo new or used? I recently bought a 2005 Aveo LS Hatchback and the coolant bottle need to be replaced. I just bought a new bottle and cap. Good as new. Also not a bad to at least once a week to check all fluids, coolant hoses and radiator. Speaking of which I noticed the radiator was leaking coolant. It had small cracks and the water inlet was brittle and falling apart. Got a new radiator and I installed it. Even then it's good to check it once a week especially during the hot summers we've been having.

Same here. I picked up mine for $1000. It's been a good little car. As with any used car purchase usually the sellers stop investing into their because they want to get rid of it. So it needed some maintenance and some tender loving care. Body is solid, no rust and engine and transmission work great. Good little car.

While we,re on the subject of coolant, what type, silicated or non...does my 2011 Aveo take? I believe it is the silicated, but just want to make sure for its first drain, flush and refill. At a discount-surplus freight store, i found PENTOFROST silicated in 1.58 qt bottles for $10.00 ea. Aveo takes 7 qts? Thanks, Robert
