      Airbag light on

So my airbag light is on. The one beside the clock. I checked the fuses, they are good. Any thoughts?

I've had this since around 100,000 miles on my 2006. I think it throws two codes: B1378 and B1448. It's the airbag connectors, the other is the passenger airbag sensor, which tells the system someone is sitting in your passenger seat. Those are the common fail points for the Aveo airbag system and tend to short out. It's pretty cheap to replace, and you can probably do it yourself as everything is under the seats. I think you can only get the new parts at the dealership. That I'm not 100% on. I had a shop do mine because I'm lazy.

So it's probably a dealer only kind of fix then if they have the part.

Step one would be getting your car scanned to find out why the warning light is being thrown and what code gets pulled. This will help find the exact fix of the original problem.

In the US I know autozone (a common parts store) will pull codes for free, some general repair shops as well. Some dealership will scan a car for free if you have a warning light on during an oil change. Other dealerships charge just to do this. But without that, you'll be replacing things blind hoping it goes off.

generally speaking, my repair cost me around 150 dollars. One hour of labor, taxes, shop fee and parts.

      No codes are being thrown.

are you sure about that? The Airbag warning light wouldn't be on without a code hitting the ECU, thus tripping the airbag light. Sometimes the general scan modules that regular shops/parts stores use cannot communicate with the aveo airbag system. The chevy dealership will have the correct scanner to communicate with the system. I'd suggest that.

Generally speaking tho, the airbag light being on isn't going to effect the performance of your car. But it also means that your airbags might not work in the event of a crash. That's a chance I wouldn't take in an Aveo IMO. Hope this helps

Well I didn't take it to a dealership to have it scanned cause they would charge me. I wasn't worried about the performance of it, I'm not sure why you thought I was. I want it to make sure the airbag would deploy.

It's like this. Go to the dealer and get robbed or go to the dealer with an end in mind and manager their time to save you cash. If you have a smart phone buy this!
Amazon.com: New Version V1.5 ELM327 OBDII OBD2 Bluetooth Car Diagnostic Interface Scanner: Automotive

It's a bluetooth to ODBII computer connector. It's dirt cheap!
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

shouldn't be much more than 75 dollars to have a dealership plug it in. I'd go that route. Like you said, you want that airbag to work in a crash.
