If the filler line or the gas cap has a leak this can affect the performance of the car and even give you a check engine light. This issue is caused by lose of pressure in the system, you will need to have this fixed. This will also throw you emissions off and cause you to fail if you require testing in you area.

I has still been "missing" or whatever it's doing. But yesterday, after doing it really bad for a little while off and on, the check engine light finally came on. I turned the car off and waited a half hour. When I restarted, the light was off and stayed off till I got home. This is the first time the light came on.

Also, the problem with filling it with feul it is gone. It was the problem with the pump, not my car.

If the light comes back on again take it to your local autoparts store. I think they all do free code scanning these days.

Thanks for all of the replies. Here is what I found so far:

At first , the check engine never came on.

Then, a couple days later, it occasionally came on but was flashing

Then it became permanently on. Went to Advance Auto and tested the code.

P0001 or something like that. Description was cylinder one misfiring. That would make perfect sense.

I put a bottle of LUCAS fuel additive in to give it a liquid tuneup. I'll see if this helpa.

How many miles on your spark plugs?

Don't really know if they have ever been changd since I got the car, so I would put ~48,000 miles on them.

yup... i changed mine at 25k miles and the gap was pretty wide on them... i bwt you just need spark plugs... that's the first thing i'd do.

What are the best plugs for my car? Are there plugs that will increase performance and aid in feup economy?

Many plugs claim many things. I've never seen any make any noticeable difference. Copper plugs are standard, platinums last longer, iridiums last even longer. That is about the only difference.
