Question Puzzled about what the dealer told me?

I have a 2008 aveo ls sedan took car in to see why the air bag light in instrument cluster was lit, they told me that the clock on the dash was bad causing the error. I never heard of this and they also said it would need reprogramming when replaced another what on my part. I do understand the it has a light to tell you that the passenger air bag is on. If it is something I can do myself I would rather do it then pay 270.00 for them to do it.

Dealer probably meant a "clock spring".

A bad clock spring can cause the airbag light to illuminate on the dash. An clock spring is an assembly that contains a spirally wound flat ribbon to allow the steering wheel to be turned while maintaining a constant electrical connection to the driver airbag, horn and other electrical steering wheel mounted controls.

Ok I checked the solder connections no problem there . About The clock spring that was pulled from a non deployed airbag scrapped Aveo. I tested it and have continuity from one end of wire to other. Horn and cruise control switch work. The dealer told me the car was like the Suzuki's where part of the air bag system runs through the clock. The passenger side airbag on off light does not come on, so looks like I will have to bite the bullet and find a working clock. Keeps time just no passenger side indicator light. I thank everyone for the insight on this and I also sensed bs on the reprogramming part.

      Good work on the troubleshooting!
Not 100% sure , but I thought some of the Aveo's had a switch (when you open the glovebox) that allowed you to turn off the passenger side air bag. This would leave it permanently on the SIC.
      Possibly an issue there?
Glad you still have 'wallet in hand' and didn't 'shell out' to the stealership.

      Knowlege is good.

Ok got my trusty multimeter out and started tracing the circuits on the board ( after figuring out which wire/ pin are the passenger seat sensor were) have found one potential problem the led light to show on and off is bad so I will either just bypass with straight wire or find a twelve volt led to solder in. Just need the warning in cluster to show vehicle inspector the system is working ( light goes out after a few seconds). Then I can wait to fix it correctly later if I do ever fix it. Part is 90 Bucks new and none of the scrap yards have my aveo body style ( 2007- newer)

My Dealer plugs in all the un-used seat belts, that seems to work for them!
