Horn broken

My 07 aveo svm with 11,000 just out of warranty now has a broken horn. It just stopped working. Tried hitting the horn itself and checked the wire connection. All is fine there. Checked the power at the plug with a meter and nothing. I can hear the relay clicking when I push the button, but I suppose that doesn't mean it has to be working correctly? Should i start with replacing the relay?

Have you tried applying 12V directly to the horn leads?

I'd do that as well. Make sure the horn itself works before worrying about relays / switches / wiring.

I don't know where you live, but some horns (by design, or by location on the car) are succeptible to rusting that eventually prevents them from working.

Every VW Rabbit I owned (and I owned a pile of them) used to need a horn replacement at some point.

try jumping the horn itself like stated, also (dumb question) where you hitting the horn button in the car when you checked for voltage at the plug? was the car on?

check for power to the relay, one should be constant, one should be switched with the horn on the steering as a switch. if you have both of those then check for power leaving. this will be switched too.

if the horn beeps when jumped to power, and the relay has power to it, then my guess is nothing is coming out.
which would mean you need a relay. but the is possibility of it being something else.

Thanks for the info. When I tested the power the car was off. Figured since the horn works when the key is off power would still register. What is the easiest way to apply 12v direct to the horn? Sounds like a good idea before I start checking relays b

run a wire from the battery terminal into the horn.. just touching.

If accessible put a inline fuse on it, so you dont cause and problems.

I have same problem, check horn it self by using jumper, it works fine, but I dont get 12 V at horn from car, I can hear relay clicking near dead padel, does anyboday has solution

it came up in another thread than the relay supplies ground, and the horn should have 12v, not sure of that accuracy, but i would check the horn for power, check for power on the two positives of the relay. and check the relay. this will at least narrow down which section of the system is at fault.
