First won't go into park, now trouble shifting and loud engine noises. help!

So I was out of the country for about a year and a half, and while I was gone my 2006 Aveo was driven some, but not often. I just got back in the beginning of September, and my Aveo has been giving me problems since. First I couldn't get the key out - it won't go all the way into park, so I have to pull the shifter into park while I take my key out, and to get it out of park I have to jiggle it. Now the engine sounds terrible. It sounds like there's some sort of metallic scraping going on in there, close to where my power steering is. And while driving it has difficulties shifting gears. Any ideas as to what may be going on?

im pretty sure it was more likely his alternator fluid.

has any of the fluids been changed? old gas? worn shifter assembly, broken shift lock/neutral safety switch lock?
