Clock comes off and on irregularly

Hello group! I have a 2008 Chevy Aveo LS.

      So here's the issue:
When I turn the car on and drive, my clock will sometimes display the time and sometimes it will be blank. When the clock decides to come back on it will still display the correct time. There really doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind this. It will happen whether I'm on smooth roads or gravel roads so bumps don't seem to be an issue. (I would then infer a loose connection) All of my other electronics work just fine.
I would like to fix this myself if possible which is why I'm avoiding a mechanic.

      Thanks for any help!
      JR.

It's possible there's a bad solder joint in the clock.

Did you search the forum - lots of clock threads.

      See this one, FYI:

Hi Little Blue Aveo! Did you sorted this out?

Just the other day I noticed my clock doing the same thing. It will turn off for couple of minutes then on again after few minutes, displaying the correct time. The cycle continues until it decides to stay on all the way to my destination.

Haven't tried to re-solder as MetroMPG suggested yet. Maybe you sorted it out.

      Thanks PoisonIvy!

Will try it. Just this noon my dash clock completely is off.

Earlier this morning it was doing the same thing. On then off... then on... then off.

      Will try your instructions PoisonIvy.

Threatening a repair is sometimes enough to fix it.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

I just had it! Just when i thought its been fixed it went off for the longest time. Once in a while it will comes on. I just re-solder everything that I can solder. Still doing the same. Just ordered genuine GM clock for 2,500 Philippine Peso, about 47 US Dollars plus shipping. Now I have a working dash clock. Hopefully it will last for another 5 years.
