Ceramic resistor under hood? What is it?

      I have a 2005 Pontiac Wave.
I've noticed what looks like a resistor in the engine bay, underneath the battery.
It's ceramic, couple inches long with one wire in each side.
It's clearly falling apart, but I don't know what it is, which makes it hard to order a new one.
If anyone knows what this is let me know.

      Thanks

i know the part you are talking about, i thought it was a fuse-able link at the time. But i have not come across it in any of my manuals.

You don't mention any problems with your car. Why do you want to replace the part?

Take it off and leave it disconnected, see what doesn't work. I think it would be for the headlights, but not certain.

I think it might be related to daytime running lights, which periodically don't work.
Or it might be related to engine cooling fan, or A/C operation.
Like I stated, it's clearly crumbling from water/frost damage. I'm hoping it might help with daytime running lights or that it might prevent some issues down the road.

It's not likely for A/C or any other cooling fan. I don't have A/C and my car has that resistor. I doubt it's for the fan because those are normally 12V and would not benefit from it.

Where is it located? Trace out the wiring. Or disconnect it and see what doesn't work. You can eliminate the internal heater fan witbout even starting the car, just turn it to run.

its not the drl, that has a box on the inner firewall.

i agree with it most likely not being the fan, etc. the only thing i can think it might be is a ground resistor for the 5v signals. But that seems highly unlikely. I have to admit i was sort of surprised when i came across it too.

I will have to find the DRL resistor, if I can bring that signal up to 12 volts, I will change my DRL over to LED's or something.
