      Chevy Aveo U.S. sales 2011 / 2012

      Annnnd they're off!

2011 is the final model year for sales of the Aveo in North America before being redesigned and renamed "Sonic" for the 2012 model year. (The redesigned car will still be called Aveo in many other world markets.)

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the 2011 numbers... with the combination of incentives to move out this "final" year, plus climbing gas prices.

So far the 2011 numbers are pretty underwhelming compared to previous years.

You do know that any 2011 Chevrolet Aveos not sold will be rebadged as 2012 Chevrolet Aveo Classic. Courtesy of my local Dealer who Told me this tidbit of information. Which I can say I am the future owner of a 2012 Aveo

Ohhh what "classic" solution. Like "classic" choke or something like that... So will be rebadged as a Sonic/Aveo Classic?
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

VW did something similar in Canada recently (not sure about the US): You could buy the previous generation Golf/Jetta badged as the "City Golf / City Jetta" alongside the newly redesigned versions of those cars.

But that was a multiple year marketing strategy to give them a cheaper car to sell. It wasn't just a way to get rid of the remaining stock of an outgoing model.

I dont think it is legal in the US to change a production year of a car once it has been established.
Especially the way the emissions laws are written. as a country though, the manufacturer places sticked of production dates, and has to match guidelines of vin number etc when the ar is built to a production year..
However they do often sell left overs for a year or so, until availability is gone, I know you can find new, never titled cars that are 2-3 years old very easily, and very much marked down.

That "classic" might be a ploy by a dealership though. i know some states used to allow a car to be "new" the first time it was titled, i once saw a 1956 chevy nomad that sold for the first time in 1972... it was listed as a 1972 nomad on the title.

the city golf and city jetta where manufactured in the years they were being sold as. JUST as in japan they still has the mk2 (85-91 north american model) jetta available as a new car, and in Africa they still sell the mk1 rabbit (74-84 model in the us)..

      March, April, May & June...

No big surprises in the numbers in these months.

April & May were well above the previous year (4645 vs. 2777, and 4538 vs. 3888 ), which would seem to say that gas prices and/or incentives are kicking in to have some effect.

But June was down quite a bit compared to 2010: 3869 vs. 5728.

The clock continues ticking down in North America!

I wonder how sales of the next gen Aveo are doing in the rest of the world. Numbers aren't as easy to come by as the U.S. stats for some reason.
