    * A new voluntary power and torque certification procedure developed by the SAE Engine Test Code committee was approved March 31, 2005. This procedure (J2723) ensures fair, accurate ratings for horsepower and torque by allowing manufacturers to certify their engines through third-party witness testing. GM was the first auto manufacturer to begin using the procedure and expects to use it for all newly rated engines in the future.

REDESIGNED 2007 CHEVROLET AVEO SEDAN OFFERS UPSCALE FEATURES, GREAT VALUE

Smart looks, surprising interior roominess and outstanding fuel economy are why the Chevrolet Aveo is a popular choice among those seeking a versatile, value-driven passenger car. The Aveo seats five adults and is available in two trim levels: the LS and LT. Aveo's size enhances maneuverability in crowded city environments, but its room - one of the roomiest vehicles in its segment - and highway manners make it a comfortable choice for longer road trips.

The redesigned 2007 Aveo sedan underscores Chevrolet's commitment to the small car market. It boasts an all-new exterior and roomy interior design characterized by youthful refinement; generous features usually seen in more expensive cars; and a more confident, dynamic driving experience. Like the previous-generation Aveo, the new Aveo sedan challenges expectations of what an entry-level car can deliver.

The Aveo sedan offers a range of value-driven options to suit a variety of lifestyles. In redesigning the sedan, the Aveo team reached beyond the highly important affordability factor to deliver a smooth, safe driving experience and amenities that are hard to find in this segment. In addition to an exterior and interior redesign, the Aveo sedan features improved suspension tuning to deliver a more responsive, European-like feel.

The Chevrolet Aveo 5-door hatchback enters the 2007 model year with levels of comfort, safety and convenience not often found in the entry-level segment. Major safety enhancements were made for the 2006 model year, such as optional side-impact air bags (seat mounted) for the driver and front passenger, as well as new, advanced two-stage frontal air bags with GM's Passenger Sensing System.

In addition to ample passenger room, the 5-door Aveo offers clever storage features in the front console, a passenger seat back pocket, and accessory hooks at the top of each front headrest for suspending shopping bags. The rear seat of the four-door folds flat for more cargo room and allows pass-through from the trunk. The five-door offers the only rear seat in the segment that folds flat and flips forward, for a segment-leading 1,190 L (42 cubic feet) of cargo space.

    Well equipped

The Aveo 4-door and 5-door are well-outfitted, with standard features including a five-speed manual transmission; air conditioning with cabin filtration; vented front disc and rear drum brakes; MacPherson strut suspension; power steering; body-color outside rearview mirrors and door handles; AM/FM stereo with CD player with MP3 playback capability and auxiliary audio input jack; tinted windshield and windows; driver's seat with fold-down armrest, manual height adjuster and manual lumbar adjuster; and floor mats.

Available options include a four-speed Aisin automatic transmission with hold control mode (optional on LS and LT); four-channel ABS with electronic brake force distribution; power sunroof (no additional charge on LT); six-disc, in-dash CD changer; 6-speaker premium sound system; remote keyless entry with power door locks (standard on LT); steering-wheel mounted audio controls; cruise control; fog lamps; chrome exterior door handles; and 15-inch wheels and low-profile tires.

Available Aveo LS sedan and 5-door options include:

    • Four-speed automatic transmission
    • Four-channel antilock brakes (ABS)
    • 15-inch alloy wheels
    • Low-profile tires
    • Rear spoiler
    • RS Special Edition Package

Available Aveo LT sedan and 5-door options include the above plus:

    • Standard keyless entry with trunk release power windows, power locks, power trunk release (sedan only) A/C, and cruise control
    • Heated, power outside rearview mirrors for driver and passenger
    • Power sunroof (no additional charge)

A RS Special Edition Package, available on LS and LT, includes:

    • 15-inch aluminum wheels
    • Rear spoiler
    • 6-speaker premium sound system
    • Steering wheel mounted audio controls
    • Apple iPod nano

    Crisp, modern exterior design

The 2007 Aveo sedan is high in style and progressive in attitude. The sedan's V-shaped hood lines point to its distinctively Chevy front fascia, which boasts a chrome-accented grille with prominent cross bar and iconic gold bowtie emblem. The sedan's new, more assertive and dynamic look is highlighted by premium cues, including three-dimensional, richly detailed headlamps that extend into the hood, available front fog lamps and bold, round taillamps, which are set within jeweled bezels.

Contributing to Aveo sedan's more aerodynamic design is the incorporation of the radio antenna into the rear glass. Extensive wind tunnel testing also helped reduce the coefficient of drag from 0.348 to a more slippery 0.326, compared to the previous model.

Interior: refinement with a modern twist

The new Aveo cabin reflects a youthful interpretation of refinement. Its signature "tall car" design and generous dimension offer ample interior space - capable of accommodating passengers more than 1.8 metres (6 feet) tall in each of the five seating positions. An enhanced combination of sound-dampening technologies and improved aerodynamics provides a quiet and comfortable ride, even at higher speeds.

The contemporary appearance of the 2007 Aveo sedan's interior is achieved through integrated components, meticulous craftsmanship and complementary colors. Striking features, including a two-tone scheme, rich instrumentation, metallic grain accents or wood-grain-style trim provide visual and tactile interest. Precision in fit and finish details caps the Aveo sedan's high-quality appearance.

The sedan's interior was designed for maximum comfort and convenience, which is evidenced in elements such as standard tilting front-seat headrests, a folding driver's armrest and lower-profile rear-seat headrests. Additional conveniences include dual visor vanity mirrors, door and seatback storage pockets and clever hooks, located on headrest posts, which can hold items such as backpacks or shopping bags.

Theater-style rear seating provides a commanding view for all passengers. A fully reclining front passenger seat and a 60/40-split folding rear seat expand Aveo's interior cargo capacity, enabling long items, such as skis, to be carried between the trunk and passenger compartment. The trunk offers 350 litres (12.4 cubic feet) of storage space, more than the previous model.

More value is delivered through the tilt-adjustable steering wheel, six-way adjustable front seats (with manual lumbar adjustment), on-key (no separate fob) remote keyless entry features and available cruise control.

Aveo sedan's radios are derived from GM's new family of premium radio systems, distinguished by upscale appearance, simplicity of operation and range of features and capabilities. An auxiliary input jack for iPods and other portable stereo devices is standard on all radios. The base radio is an AM/FM CD player, MP3 playback with four-speaker sound system. Available is a six-disc in-dash CD changer radio. Steering wheel audio controls are available with the RS Special Edition Package.

    A dynamic driving experience

The 2007 Aveo sedan was engineered and validated for a broad range of driving and road conditions, but was tuned to provide a more European-like feel. It was developed for a dynamic, well-planted driving experience. A wide stance and long wheelbase (2479 mm / 97.6 inches) deliver a smooth, confident, stable ride.

The chassis systems on the 2007 Aveo reflect further enhancements of features developed for the 2006 models, which were enhanced significantly compared to earlier versions of the car.

For 2007, the focus was on more refined, precise ride and handling characteristics for more confident high-speed road command and agile, responsive control, especially in more demanding driving situations such as rapid lane changes at highway speeds.

    Features include:

    • A wide, solid stance with a front tread of 1450 mm (57.1 inches) and rear tread of 1430 mm (56.3 inches), compared to 1410 mm (55.5 inches) in 2006. This wide footprint is among the best in class, making the car very surefooted, imparting a sense of confidence and stability among driver and passengers.

    • A 17-mm front stabilizer bar combined with higher rate front springs and more highly damped front shocks minimize the amount of vehicle roll and increase the roll damping to provide more precise control for the driver. The new suspension bushings also contribute to the precise handling control. This fully retuned suspension package provides a distinctively European-style performance and feel.

    • Valve tuning in the rack and pinion hydraulic-assist steering system is consistent with the suspension tuning to provide more precise control.

    • Unique stainless steel exhaust system with dual in-line mufflers for more compact under-car packaging. The front muffler is tuned for high frequency noise suppression and the rear muffler for low frequency noise.

The suspension system consists of a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and stabilizer bar and an independent torsion beam axle mount compound link-type rear suspension with gas-charged shocks.

Power-assisted, variable-rate rack-and-pinion steering is standard, with enhancements that compensate for external forces such as strong side winds. The steering gear is mounted on the front suspension cross member for precise action and stability.

Standard on the Aveo sedan are power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes; a four-channel ABS system is available. The four-sensor - one at each wheel - system incorporates electronic brake force distribution, which balances braking performance based on factors including road conditions and the weight of passengers and/or cargo.

    Responsive powertrain

Powering Aveo is GM's proven, sophisticated 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine that produces an estimated 103 horsepower* and 107 lb.-ft. of torque*. The engine is enhanced by a variable geometry induction system, which helps maximize power across the rpm range. Electronic throttle control enhances drivability and fuel economy, while reducing emissions. With a smooth-shifting, standard five-speed manual transmission, the Aveo sedan offers an estimated 35 mpg (US) in highway driving.** A four-speed Aisin automatic transmission is available.

The engine's variable geometry induction system is designed with a longer runner length at slower speeds to increase low-end torque. The system includes a bypass valve that is activated in high rpm or heavy throttle applications. Features include:

    • A roller type cam follower to minimize valve friction and noise and enhance fuel economy
    • A plastic engine upper cover for noise dampening / quieter operation
    • A single serpentine accessory belt drive system with automatic tensioner
    • An engine cooling fan system with 366-mm diameter fan

The fuel-saving Aisin four-speed automatic transmission features adaptive shift technology. The segment-exclusive hold control mode special feature helps reduce wheel spin and traction loss on slick roads by allowing the driver to select and hold a higher gear, which reduces torque to the wheels. It enables sportier driving operation by allowing the driver to control shift points similar to manual transmission operation.

    Safe and secure

The Aveo sedan experience is enhanced by a comprehensive system of safety and security technologies designed to meet safety standards in markets around the globe. In the U.S. it is expected to achieve top federal and insurance industry crashworthiness test scores. The previous-generation Aveo achieved the federal government's highest frontal crash test rating, five stars for both the driver and the front-seat passenger. The 2007 5-door Aveo has carry-over five-star crash test ratings. The sedan is untested. See www.gm.ca for details.

Aveo's safety starts with a high-strength steel structure that creates a safety cage around the passenger compartment. The structure has been engineered to help maintain passenger compartment integrity and features tailor-welded blanks, a feature not typically found on vehicles in the segment.

The 2007 Aveo sedan includes standard advanced dual-stage frontal air bags and the GM Passenger Sensing System, as well as optional seat-mounted side-impact air bags that provide additional head and thorax protection. The dual-stage frontal air bags deploy at different levels, depending on the severity of the crash.

Additional Aveo sedan safety and security features include:

    • Front safety belt pretensioners with front-load limiters
    • Height-adjustable shoulder belt anchors
    • Lower Anchors and Top Tether for CHildren (LATCH) child seat attachment system in the rear seats
    • Rear child safety door locks
    • Emergency hatch release inside the trunk
    • Fuel door lock with remote release feature

*A new voluntary power and torque certification procedure developed by the SAE Engine Test Code committee was approved March 31, 2005. This procedure (J2723) ensures fair, accurate ratings for horsepower and torque by allowing manufacturers to certify their engines through third-party witness testing. GM was the first auto manufacturer to begin using the procedure and expects to use it for all newly rated engines in the future.

** Based on GM testing. Official EPA estimates not yet available.
