How much power can the tranny take?
I thought about just throwing away a few grand to add a small turbo to the aveo, but that damn auto tranny worries me, how much power would anyone guess it would take before I would be replacing it

Ugh! How many times has this come up in conversation already? Just wait and trade it in on a manual, turbo Aveo RS. lol Done deal!

Re: How much power can the tranny take?
I thought there was specullation that the auto transmission could take up to 180ft-lbs of torque. I wouldn't count on more than 120 ft-lbs for it to be reliable. If the Optra (Canada), Reno? Forenza? (US) has the same transmission, then I'd put that number closer to 150ft-lbs.
But this is all specullation. More research needs to be done.
The Forenza Transmission code is ZF 4HP16
The Aveo Code is 81-40LE
BUT...the RPO Code (Regular Production Option) is the same, being MLQ... Which probably indicates that they would use the same casting, just different internal parts (such as gear ratios).
